As of now, 30 days before the launch, the old welcome page is dead. Facebook's intention is to bring the social aspect back via the Timeline. In the past, many welcome pages were designed to harvest likes. The new model encourages companies to earn likes through engagement. This aligns better with Facebook's mission of being a social platform.

Great info Ed. I agree w/you that this new layout looks too much like the personal pages. I like the idea of the post to the top of the timeline that can stay there for up to 7 days.

And there are plenty of people tweeting today shaping Twitter's culture. Whether or not they could ever be named in the same sentence as Plato, well that's another story all together.

HMMmmm, the same size as Italy, huh? And Italy has left its mark on culture from Plato to Versace. . .
Twitter is accessible, immediate, and appealing. Connecting via twitter brings a level of excitement/involvement to everything form world events(witness last night's Bin Laden capture) to simple entertainment (who got voted off DWTS?!)which previously was limited to those actually ON the front lines, IN the audience, or AT the championship game. When real-time events are unfolding in your twitterverse, you are present and part of them in a whole new way. Even if you don't ever want to see Courtney Love's boudoir photos, you will find a reason to join the conversation. Welcome to Twitter, world.
